When asked to respond to Rice’s remarks on the Situation Room last Friday, CNN host Lou Dobbs became agitated. TPM’s Josh Marshall noted that Dobbs explained “how he’s sick of ‘cotton pickin’ black leaders telling him how he can and can’t talk about race (he catches himself at the last minute — sorta).”

HP Media Vault Linux Server Reviewed: It Kicked-Ass

Why, in the midst of a major Windows Home Server push, would HP introduce a little Linux-based NAS at half the price? And why would HP make the $300 Media Vault mv2120 so full featured and easy that its $600-and-up MediaSmart Servers look

2 drives is pointless. And it doesn’t allow you to use drives of any size as you do in WHS. My WHS box has room for 12 drives. Currently I have 2×160gb, 2×250gb, 2×500gb and 1×750gb.
And I prefer the per share duplication option of WHS as opposed to RAID 1. I may not wish to duplicate all of my data but rather have the space available.

Pwn 2 Own- Ubuntu Laptop claims victory as Vista falls

“7:30pm PST Update - Vista Laptop was Won!: Congratulations to the team of Shane Macaulay and Derek Callaway (both from Security Objectives) and Alexander Sotirov! - they have just won the Fujitsu U810 laptop running Vista Ultimate SP1 after it was installed with the latest version of Adobe Flash” Only Ubuntu was left standing!

I dual boot ubuntu and Vista, mainly to just have fun in Linux just because I can (it is great having free software, you use it just because you can ;)) but honestly, I mostly use Vista. I like that when I’m done in Microsoft Math or Excel, I can instantly start up COD 4 and I’m off to have some fun. Windows is hard to beat, I do not think anyone can claim victory over windows until other OSes gain support. You know Microsoft is going to make Windows 7 “better” than Vista, so I do not see that happening anytime soon. If that isn’t the case though, Microsoft should start to feel some hurt.

149 Linux Boxes on every Virgin America flight

They are variants of Red Hat & Fedora. Virgin America’s director of in-flight entertainment Charles Ogilvie explains in this CrunchGear interview.

I’ve been on several planes with in-flight entertainment systems running Linux. They’ve occasionally had to reboot them- and I get a kick out of watching the Linux kernel boot. I was on a Lufthansa flight 3 years ago, and after someone complained about a black box under the seat blocking him from putting an excessively large bag underneath- the flight attendant told him each screen has it’s own computer under the seat. They use a server to stream the content out to individual computers that display it. It’s great- because it allows for interactive games (trivia) and individualized pay-per-view movies. So- in short- nothing really remarkable here. I do LOVE to see Linux in wide-spread use like this.

Xbox Live owners getting content re-licensed to new Xboxes

The Consumerist is reporting that Microsoft is making good on re-licensing downloadable content for Xbox 360 owners who got replacement machines. Finally.
At issue is the fact that the Xbox Marketplace’s content is tied to each Xbox’s serial number. When you make a purchase the Marketplace checks your serial number and generates a license.

Just for the record, Microsoft re-licenses your replacement Xbox before they ship it back to you as part of their extended warranty agreement. The author of the original article even admits that Major Nelson (the administrator for Microsoft’s official Xbox Live blog) “told me that this should have happened with my unit but did not,” which indicates that it was simply a screw-up on Microsoft’s part, and not a company-wide scandal. It really sucks for that guy, but Microsoft has been keeping up their end of the bargain (for the most part).

I just received my repaired Xbox this afternoon. As it stands now, I can still access all of my downloaded content without any problems (even without a connection to Live).

AMD announces tri-core, tweaked quad-core Phenoms CPUs

AMD has formally unwrapped its three-core Phenom X3 8000 series, along with new versions of its existing quad-core Phenom X4 processors, now known as the 9050 line.Interestingly, the The 8650 is 27 per cent faster than the 6000+ at converting an “HD video file” to a mobile screen-sized MPEG 4 file.

This is a perfect opportunity to ask a totally unrelated question I’ve always wondered about… (Keep in mind this is coming from a total computer illiterate…) Remember when newer CPU’s would just have higher and higher MHz and eventually GHz? What made the computer companies change direction and go with multiple cores? I know you can read up on it on, say, wikipedia, but it’s too confusing. Would be nice to get a bottom-line answer from a fellow digger. Thanks! *sorry about off-topic-ness*

Does the Human Brain Possess Potential Super-Powers?

Categories: Uncategorized

Some of the most incredible minds on Earth lack the ability to filter irrelevant facts and can retain information at incredible rates. Somehow their brains are able to store & access incredible loads of info, even perceiving & relating to this info in an entirely different way. Some scientists even believe that our brains could possess super-powers

All you people who are saying no need to read the article. The title is a little grandiose, but the so-called supper powers they’re talking about are abilities that have expressly proven to be true such as eidetic memory or the ability of some autistic savants to recall minor details of events from years ago. Nowhere do they make the claim that we have untapped ‘psychic’ potential or anything like that. Nor do they make the false ten percent claim that people repeating here. But you people who keep screaming ‘NO!’ over and over again are just as ignorant as they are, perhaps more so because yours is a willful ignorance born out of prejudging the content of an article based on the title. We all use far more than ten percent of our brains, but I’m starting to think only ten percent of you diggers actually bother to read anything here.

TIME: Hillary: First time in 12 years she Misspoke? Nope.

Hillary said today she “misspoke” last week about her Bosnia trip. Really? Below are four instances where Hillary Clinton misremembers sniper fire upon her arrival in Bosnia. (With some video of her reading her remarks.) How many times does it take for a “misspeak” to become a lie? You decide.

Here’s an exercise for you. 20th Century Fox greenlights a big, crappy summer time-travel movie where Malcolm X (with Terrence Howard attached), Golda Meir (to be played by Sigourney Weaver) and Davy Crockett (played by Clint Eastwood) are put on an island and forced to fight to the death ala ‘Battle Royale.’ Who do you think test audiences are going to want to see as the hero? Ten out of ten times I’d bet they’re going to go with Clint Eastwood. They’ll go with Clint in the fall, too. We’re just watching Golda and brother X tearing each other up right now because we’re in the second act and people are cracking open their Raisinettes and ready to see some blood in the water.
